Getting Started...
New Construction, Additions or Remodels-
Once the (plumbing) contract has been signed (by all required parties), AXP will work with you, the client and/or general contractor to schedule the first of (3) plumbing phases. These phases are commonly referred to as Rough in, Top out and Trim. Rough in, the first phase, is the installation of water, gas and waste piping under the floor or slab. Top out, the second phase, is bringing that plumbing into the walls (and stubbing out) at all of the fixture locations. It also includes installing the tub/shower or shower valves and, venting the waste piping through the roof (VTR). Finally, the third and final stage is the Trim phase. This is the installation of the plumbing fixtures. Each phase will be tested and inspected for leaks and proper workmanship.
Specification/Installation Sheets-
Prior to the start of construction, specifically plumbing, it is an excellent time to begin choosing your fixtures.
Plumbing fixtures such as pedestal lavatories and apron front kitchen sinks (when used with a garbage disposer) require manufacturer specified plumbing (the waste and waters stub out differently than typical lavatories and sinks). Appliances, such as tankless water heaters and large gas ranges have a much greater demand for gas then the conventional water heaters and ranges. In order for any plumber to accurately size the incoming gas service piping, he will need to know the BTU’s (gas demand) of all the gas related appliances in advance. This includes boilers, furnaces, fireplaces, wall heaters and so on. Please obtain specification/installation sheets in advance of the rough in phase for the fixtures and appliances listed above.
Venting Tankless Water Heaters-
Very important and often overlooked initially is how to vent an on-demand (tankless) water heater. It is always a good idea to plan out the venting path for tankless water heaters installed indoor in advance. There are different methods of venting, depending on the size of the room or area where the water heater will be installed (combustion reasons that may require an air intake) and, the distance or length of venting needed (power assisted direct venting may be required). Specific information regarding Noritz tankless water heaters and venting requirements can be obtained by clicking on one Noritz link on the product & materials page. AXP will also advise its’ clients prior to beginning a project.
AquaPex and TracPipe-
AXP is certified for the installation of AquaPex tubing (water service) and TracPipe (gas service) piping. The majority of the custom home and commercial projects we do use both materials. Please note, depending where you live, even though most areas accept the use of these materials, there are still a few cities that do not. Petaluma for example allows the use of TracPipe but not AquaPex. This may change soon but for now, you must still use copper piping in Petaluma.
Confused?...Relax!
AXP has prepared an easy to follow list that includes the questions we need to know in advance. Simply fill out the form and include any specification sheets you obtain (or at least supply us with Brand and model numbers) and we will do the rest. The better prepared we are in advance, the least likely chance of costly changes later. Good preparation always helps a project run much smoother.
